Jo Oakley

Jo Oakley’s mixed media paintings and collagraph prints are of interior views, fabric patterns, vessels, coffee times and other domestic moments.

Her themes come from memories of childhood which have merged with contemporary daily domestic rituals. She draws inspiration from time spent in her beach hut on the south coast of England. The interior and the things that find their own way there, whether owned by Jo, inherited from others or found, all have a story to tell.

She begins her work with the memories of colour and pattern in sketchbooks and then the objects start to form as a painting on canvas as she builds up layers of paint, scrapes back and layers again, creating the richness and depth of all that the memories mean to her personally.
