Gillian Jones was born in Banffshire in 1966 and was brought up on the Isle of Skye.
She studied at Grays School of Art, Aberdeen.
She now lives and works in the North of Scotland.
She paints mainly in watercolour and works ‘en plein air’ giving her paintings an immediate, confident and energetic mark. Her strong and beautiful use of colour reflects the Highland landscape that surrounds her. Over the years she has also worked in several printmaking disciplines. Her wood engravings display a meticulous attention to detail whilst her linocuts and screen prints are concerned more with a love of colour and space.
She has received numerous awards and commissions including the Elizabeth Greenshields Award for Young Artists (1989) and a SAC/ Hi Arts Visual Artists Award (2001).
Her work is featured in numerous private and public collections world-wide including that of The Highland Regional Council, The Piper Bravo Platform and The Great Western Hospital, Edinburgh.
