Jennifer Mackenzie, originally for Lanarkshire, now lives and works in Sutherland.
She graduated in Drawing and Painting from Glasgow School of Art in 1971 and gained her teaching certificate at
Jordanhill College in 1972. After teaching art and design in schools for many years she became a full-time professional
artist in 2001.
Her paintings are very much a personal response to her environment, in the Scottish tradition of colour, light and space.
She loves bold colour and the tactile qualities of oil paint and though she paints mostly still life, she also enjoys
figurative and landscape work and has undertaken a number of portrait commissions.
Her most recent paintings reflect a year in her studio, as she observes the changing effects of light on the colours of
flowers and personal memorabilia. During the short winter days the colours are muted but as the year moves on, the
light strengthens and this is reflected in the more intense colours.
New paintings now in Gallery 1.
Prices range from £400 - £950
