Jonathan Shearer studied at Cyprus College of Art and Grays Schools of Art, Aberdeen, graduating in 1993.
He now lives and works in the Highlands.
He draws inspiration for his atmospheric, elevational works from painters such as Turner and Horatio McCulloch.
He does not copy from photographs, but prefers to experience the Scottish landscape first hand, taking his paints
and a small easel with him into the mountains.
His smaller oil paintings are often sketches, painted on the spot and it is this immediacy
that provides the atmosphere and appreciation of changing weather conditions so characteristic of his work.
Recent work includes new watercolours of stags, his highly acclaimed depictions of mountainous scenery together with fresh subject matter
from the western seaboard and islands of Scotland (Mull, Iona, Colonsay) and caledonian pine forests.
New paintings are now live on Gallery 1.
