Craigie Aitchison was born in Edinburgh (1926) and initially studied law before changing career and enrolling at the Slade School of Art, London in the '50's.
He is a member of the Royal Scottish Academy and the Royal Academy and in 1999 was awarded a CBE.
His exquisite imagery has an almost mystical or spiritual quality about it, not only in the subjects he depicts but in the carefully chosen colours. His distintive paintings and hand-made screenprints are now highly collectable and can be found in many public collections including those of the Arts Council of Great Britain, the British Council, Glasgow Museums and Galleries, Aberdeen Art Gallery and Museum, NACF, Royal Academy of Arts, Scottish Arts Council, Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art and the Tate Gallery.
He has received numerous awards and commissions during his distinguished career including the Jerwood Prize (1994) and the AXA Art Award for Printmaking, Royal Academy of Arts (2000).
The selection of screenprints featured on these pages have been made by Craigie in collaboration with Advanced Graphics London.
