Karolina Larusdottir was born in Reykjavik, Iceland 1944. She studied at the Sir John Cass
College, London (1964-65), the Ruskin School of Art, Oxford (1965-67) and Barking College
of Art (1977-80). She now lives and works in East Anglia and in Iceland.
Her paintings and hand-made etchings are often inspired by her childhood in Iceland.
Her grandfather’s hotel in Reykjavik has provided a wealth of imagery. In some work
she creates a world of her own with imagined people in strange situations. Her work
contains a wry humour that enhances the surreal and timeless qualities she creates
when dealing with her favourite topic, people.
She has received numerous awards and commissions. Some paintings have been commissioned
by the Icelandic Government to present to visiting dignitaries. She is a member of
the New English Art Club, the Royal Society of Painter Printmakers and the Royal Watercolour Society. In 1993 her biography was published in Iceland.
Her work is featured in numerous private and public collections world-wide including those
of The British Museum, London, The Vatican, H.M. Queen Elizabeth and the Icelandic National
Collection.
