Bronwen Sleigh was born 1980. She attended Glasgow School of Art and then gained a M.A.
in Fine Art Printmaking from the Royal College of Art in London in 2008.
During this period she won several awards and prizes which mark her out as a new talent
in the contemporary print world.
In 2006 she was the resident artist at the Highland Print Studio in Inverness and so it is entirely appropriate that she should return to this city
for her first solo exhibition since graduating. Working between photography, 3D models and
etching, Bronwen’s work explores the idea of space by twisting, folding and abstracting
elements from the places she visits. Her imagery is usually taken from urban and industrial
spaces setting up a tension between the destruction of nature and pollution and the
technological possibilities of the future.
Her original hand-made etchings, created through a technical process involving acid on metal, resonate with her
subject matter which includes Wharf Street and Baker Street in London, imagery from Calgary
in Canada, shipyards, wind farms, whisky stores, oil rigs and views of Nigg and Cromarty in
Ross-shire.
Bronwen will be leading a workshop in etching techniques at the Highland Print Studio on 5th
September, 10.00 - 4.00. Please book in advance.
She will be giving an illustrated talk at the newly refurbished premises of the Highland Print Studio on 7th September
