Michael Lythgoe
Gallery 1
|
Michael Lythgoe was born in Liverpool in 1950 and trained as an engineer.
Whilst living on the shores of Lake Ontario in Canada he was able to pursue his hobby of bird watching, spending hours
observing and photographing birds. An old wooden decoy, bought in Cape Cod, was the inspiration for a change of career.
On returning to the U.K. in 1986 he became a professional artist and success followed when he won the European Decoy Carving
Championships.
His work has evolved into a style and form unique to him. His sculptures are curvaceous and calming, combining the eye of an
ornothologist with the precision of an engineer. Each piece is hewn from a block of wood using drawknives and spokeshaves and
then sympathetically painted using acrylic paint.
Prices range from £25 - £475
