Alisdair McKay

Since setting up his workshop in 1984, Alisdair Mackay has completed a wide range of commissions and exhibition pieces in wood and wood related materials. He believes that plain wood is ideal for general furniture construction, but often the most exciting features are considered unusable. He works this material to achieve smoothness or texture, setting rough against smooth, light against dark and even gilding to highlight special details.

Glass or apertures also feature where he thinks that interest can be gained by allowing the viewer to see beyond the outer surface of the piece, with integral lighting to further enhance this dimension.

He seeks to “ produce work which is lively, exciting, includes the unexpected and is fun”.
