"'Hills and Valleys, Trees and Fields' — This is how I see the landscapes of the place I have lived in for more than 50 years. In the last 3 years I have revisited many of my sketches from the past and I have used them as the starting point for the oil paintings in this show. As many of the sketches do not have any notes with them, to tell me the exact area I was drawing at the time, I am free to paint the landscape as I wish, and interpret it in my own way. Having used many different mediums in my career as an artist, this show is a return back to basics, back to painting with oil paint, in my studio in the Highlands." |

Biography
Evelyn Pottie was born in Edinburgh and lived in Aberdeen where she gained a D.A. in Drawing and Painting from Gray's School of Art. After a short experience in the teaching profession and a move to the Inverness area, she continued to paint while bringing up her family. |
The opening of what is now Highland Print Studio in Inverness led to working part time as a studio technician while, as a member, making full use of the facilities and discovering the joys of printmaking. Evelyn produced many limited edition screenprints of Scottish landscapes, and explored other printmaking techniques including monoprints and photo etching.
For more than 12 years she undertook a variety of commissioned work as well as tutoring and supporting the exhibitions in art.tm gallery and editioning for other artists while continuing to paint landscapes and exhibiting locally and in various galleries in Scotland. She has been involved in community and school projects including fabric banners, editions on paper and large canvas monoprints which included new forms of digital image manipulation.
Road into the Hills, oil on board, 63 x 75cm
She is fortunate to have lived in the Highlands of Scotland for most of her life and is passionate about the landscapes of Scotland, having painted many iconic views and the countryside she lives in. Her work is based in realism but her painting of the shapes and colours of the landscapes is often exaggerated by an emotional response.
