Jonathan ShearerJonathan Shearer graduated from Gray’s School of Art in 1993 and followed this with post graduate study at Cyprus College of Art. He now lives in the Highlands of Scotland where he is inspired by the rivers, mountains and coastal scenery in all weathers. He seeks to convey his physical engagement with the landscape; preferring to work en plein air, painting swiftly with thick oil paint using trowels and brushes to capture the fleeting moment and rapidly changing light conditions. Jonathan is an exceptional artist. His work is instantly recognisable and he is one of the most successful of Highland artists with a huge following.

Tree Portraits
Jonathan has created at least one tree portrait almost every day of the year for the last year. He works en plein air with easily portable canvases measuring 21 x 15cm. A whole wall in the gallery will be given over to these small paintings creating an immersive forest effect. Some of these unframed portraits are available to purchase individually on our online shop and the others may be purchased by contacting the gallery directly.
